Registered Nursing paves the way to professionalism
Registered nursing professionals are healthcare people who practice their profession through the nursing process as they work hand-in-hand with other medical professionals. They help in the recovery and the maintenance of the patients’ good health as well. Registered nurses make use of the nursing process in good care of the sick and those who are suffering from serious injuries. They also have a more training experiences, education and clinical knowledge as compared to licensed practical nurses.
The Nurse Practice Act determines what legal practices a registered nurse can do in a particular state. It puts a limit to the tasks a registered nurse may perform when on duty. Nurse Practice Act also outlines the practice that a nurse practitioner may or may not do. For example, in some states a nurse practitioner is allowed to prescribe any of medication but is prohibited to do so in other areas.
Different states in the country have different laws governing the duties of a registered nurse to where they may be licensed to work. There are rules and regulations implemented by a state board of nursing that governs nursing care. This board of nursing administers these guidelines on a daily basis and they are also responsible in qualifying candidates for licensure. They make decisions for nursing issues and they make sure that registered nurses perform at par with the rules and regulations that they’ve set.
In hospitals, registered nurses are given supervisory role such as assigning tasks to licensed practical nurses or nursing assistants. Registered nurses are not plain bed side nurses for they may also work in physician’s office, insurance companies, health agencies, private industry, school districts, or they may also work as consultants for themselves. They can also land a job in chemical companies and large manufacturers. They are trained to conduct and make researches in areas like biology, psychology, human development and health care systems.
Survey says that registered nurses earn an average of $62,450 mid annually. The middle 50% earned ranges from $51,640 to $76,570. The lowest 10% earns less than $43,410 and the highest 10% earns more than $92,240. Here is a list of the median annual wages in companies employing a large amount of registered nurses: employment services – $68,160, general medical and surgical hospitals – $63,880, offices of physicians – $59,210, home health services – $58,740 and nursing care facilities – $57,060. Along with their wages, registered nurses also receive bonuses, educational benefits, child care and even have the luxury of flexible work schedules.
Being a registered nursing professional sure is a challenge. They are deemed responsible in saving people’s lives and it’s not easy to carry such a load. They are sometimes asked to work for extended hours in hospitals and other healthcare units. They oftentimes miss out on their quality time with their family and friends. But if they just work hard enough and be dedicated to their craft then they would surely climb up the employment ladder fast. And that’s because hard work is always well-compensated!
