An associates program usually lasts for two years in a college. If you are aiming for an associate’s degree, you need to ensure that the college program you are applying for is approved by the Board of Nephrology Examiners for Nursing and Technology (BONENT). Once you graduate from the program, you will have an Associates Degree of Applied Science in Nephrology and Renal Technology. In school, you will learn all about how the dialysis machine works, how to asses your patient before during and after a procedure, and how to handle complications related to the procedure. You will also learn about how a patient can progress from a simple to a chronic kidney disease so expect anatomy and physiology subjects to become your forte.

After your training is over, it’s time to look for a prospective employer. You don’t need to apply in hospitals to find a job; there are many private owned dialysis clinics in the area that will pay you a decent entry level wage.
